What is Dementia?
Dementia is a progressive condition which results in the deterioration of memory, reasoning, communication skills and functional abilities. This is caused by structural and chemical changes within the brain, eventually dimishing healthy brain cells.
Types of Dementia
The most common type where the structure and chemistry of the brain leads to cell death.
Caused by conditions such as Strokes or Small vessel disease which reduces the level of Oxygen to the brain resulting in communication difficulties and confusion.
Is a rare form of Dementia resulting in changes to people’s behaviour and personality.
Dementia with Lewy Bodies
Caused by small protein deposits which appear within the nerve cells in the brain, resulting in problems with memory, concentration and language skills.
